Strategic IT Advisory in Bucharest

We provide CIO-level strategic IT advisory for companies that need sound technology decisions without hiring another executive: IT governance, architecture reviews, and a realistic plan for adopting AI.

Who this service is for

Strategic IT advisory is designed for CEOs, CFOs, and board members of companies in Romania who make major technology decisions without an experienced CIO at the table. Typical situations: the head of IT has left and recruiting a replacement will take months; the IT budget keeps growing with no clear link to business objectives; a major investment, such as an ERP system or a cloud migration, has to be decided next quarter; or leadership wants to know where AI genuinely belongs in the company and where it is just passing hype. We also work with IT managers who need a senior partner to make the case for their proposals to leadership.

What is included

  • Interim or fractional CIO — An experienced IT executive, available a few days a month or full-time for a fixed term, who leads your team, budget, and vendors until you have a permanent CIO in place.
  • IT strategy aligned with the business — A strategy document tied to your business objectives, with prioritized initiatives, estimated budgets, and a 12–24 month timeline that leadership can approve and track.
  • IT governance framework — Clear rules sized to your company: who approves technology investments, how projects are prioritized, and how the relevant information reaches leadership.
  • Architecture review — An independent assessment of your existing systems and of the solutions vendors are proposing, with the risks, hidden costs, and alternatives explained in terms leadership can follow — before you sign a major contract.
  • AI adoption roadmap — A prioritized list of the AI use cases relevant to your company, with estimated effort, data-related risks, and concrete first steps, separating what adds value from what is merely fashionable.

How we work

  1. Initial conversation and diagnostic

The first conversation is free. It is followed by a two- to four-week diagnostic: interviews with leadership and the IT team, and a review of the budget, vendor contracts, and critical systems.

  2. Recommendations and plan

In the week after the diagnostic, we present leadership with our findings, the risks, and a prioritized plan with budget options. We discuss the pros and cons of every option openly, not just the one we favor.

  3. Implementation support

Whether as your fractional CIO or as advisors, we stay with the team throughout implementation, with a level of presence agreed month by month, and take part in the key decisions made with your vendors.

  4. Quarterly review

Every three months, we review the plan with leadership: what has been delivered, what has changed in the business, and where budget and priorities need to shift for the next period.

Frequently asked questions

What is a fractional CIO?

A fractional CIO is an experienced IT executive who works for your company part-time, for example a few days a month, but with the same responsibilities as a full-time CIO: strategy, budget, team, and vendors. The arrangement suits companies that need senior IT leadership but cannot yet justify a permanent CIO position.

What is the difference between IT consulting and an IT audit?

An audit checks whether systems and processes comply with a standard or a regulation, and it ends with a list of nonconformities. Strategic advisory starts from the company's objectives and answers a different question: what needs to be done, in what order, and with what budget. The findings of an existing audit are often a good starting point.

How much does IT consulting cost?

The cost depends on the format and on the size of your company. For the initial diagnostic, you receive a firm quote after the first conversation, based on the number of systems and teams involved. The fractional CIO role is billed monthly, for a number of days we agree on together and review periodically.

How does an engagement start, and what do we need to prepare?

We start with a free conversation with your leadership team. For the diagnostic, it helps to have the IT org chart, the IT budget for the last two years, the list of vendor contracts, and the main projects underway. If this information is not documented, we reconstruct it together in the first days of the engagement.

What happens after we receive the IT strategy?

You can implement the plan with your internal team, with your current vendors, or with our support, either through the fractional CIO role or through our project management service. Whichever option you choose, we review progress together every three months so the plan stays aligned with what is actually happening in the business.
